10.7.10{Shop: Dress,Boots, Necklace}Remember that time that I said that I only bought 1 piece from the Tucker for Target line? Well I went back. Innocently enough, I went back and lo and behold this dress was the only one left in my size, just hanging on the rack. I swear there was a light from heaven shining on it. And even though I’m on an Anthropologie break for a while*, that doesn’t mean I can’t faux-thropologie shop, right?
Also, I’d like you to meet someone. Meet another pair of Steve Madden booties that I bought last year and never really wore. Now I want to wear them all the time. Either Steve Madden is ahead of himself, or I’m just really, really behind on fashion. Either way wouldn’t surprise me. It’s like I have new boots for free. Kendi – 1, Steve Madden – 1. It’s a win-win situation.

*Why I’m on a break from Anthropologie: I love that store, as if it was a relative (a close relative, like a quirky aunt), but I get in trouble every time I go into the store or browse online. That is the one place I can not say no to myself, so I’m just not going in for a while. Sad but true. Let the faux-thropologie begin!

  1. I'm a faux-thropologie girl. I love their looks, but usually can't afford them!

I really love the tucker for target line- it is very Anthro!

Your fau-thropologie look is right on. Anthro should hire you.

  2. I've been meaning to visit the local target for some Tucker stuff – mulberry too pretty soon! and even william rast this winter! ah. going broke just talking about it.

love this look though and LY's booties 🙂

  4. I'm an an Antrho diet, too, Kendi, except my addiction is their kitchen goods and glassware. That place is dangerous.

  5. You look so great! I absolutely love this look! You showed Anthropologie what's what with this one. 🙂

    Have a great weekend, Kendi!

  6. I love that tucker for target dress! I don't think i saw that one in any of my targets. sad day! And those steve madden booties are so great. I am addicted to steve madden shoes… i think i need to lay off of them like you're laying off antropologie!

  7. i love this outfit. i am also an anthro-addict and consistently overspend at that store (there are just too many lovely things)!

  8. You are so dangerous to my wallet. When you wore lace – I brought lace. Yesterday when you wore your suede pumps – I went on the hunt for suede pumps (and I'm not a fan of suede). Today I'm browsing on Target's website debating another purchase. Oh well all in the name of fashion.

  9. Anthropologie is one of the main reasons I stopped shopping for a year. I'm totally for serious. And ya know there are so many ways to fake it! I love that dress and way to go on introducing everyone to those booties!

  10. Go Kendi, go Kendi, Go! (Not sure what that has to do with your post, but it was stuck in my head while I was reading)

Sooooo, I love this dress. Glad you went back and got it!

  11. Hey Kendi,

I also bought this dress from Target- I've thought about layering over it but did you have a difficult time getting the blousy sleeves into a cardigan?

I didn't know if it would get lumpy if that makes sense.

    Great outfit!

    Maggie

  12. Kendi – thanks for posting the link for the SM boots. I've noticed them in old posts and I have been dreaming about them! Now thanks to you (and some amazon seller) I will get them in 3 to 5 business days. Cross your fingers that they fit!

  13. Anthro is definitely my weakness too. I can stop for a month or so but can't help going back… I think they knew this time too, because they are enticing me with coupons, ack!

  14. love the post title! It totally is faux-thropologie. I also totally relate to not being able to help yourself in anthro., especially in the stores. I think either the music, or the smell, or the lovely lovely atmosphere makes the clothes just say "take us home", no "take LOTS of us home!" They win everytime.

  15. First off, thanks for your adorable blog … I visit often and take away some great ideas for styling in my own closet.

Without being too forward, how tall are you? 🙂 I often like dresses that you and other bloggers feature (Target is my happy place), but when I try them on myself they are waaaaaay shorter and I look a little pre-Rodeo Drive Pretty Woman. Not good.

If you would be so kind as to tell me your stats (I promise I am not a stalker asking for your measurements), it would really help this SAHM decide which pretty things to save her pennies for!

  16. Rachel B — No biggie! I'm 5'9". And if I stand up really straight, I"m 5'9 1/2". I usually buy a medium in clothes, but this dress I bought in a small.

This dress is actually a little short for me. I didn't realize it until I got it home. It's okay when I'm just standing but as I walk it would ride up, so I continually pulled on it all day. I think it'll be perfect with tights though this fall/winter.

  17. I'm really excited about faux-thropologie, because I've NEVER been to anthro IN MY LIFE. yes, gasp, if you want. But I want everything from there that I see online. EVERYTHING. Teach me how to dress like that without shopping there! 🙂 LOVE YOU, Kendi.

  18. Faux-thropologie! LUV IT Kendi! Your look is spot on! I have that dress too! You're pretty lucky you were able to get it! They were sold out in most of my local stores. I went got 2 of them at 2 different stores (2 different sizes). Then my BFF decided she wanted the other one so it was a good thing I got both. I LOVE your booties! You're so ahead of trends 🙂
Oh and Anthro addiction? Oy vey… I can't walk out without something… even if it's just another dishtowel or hair clip…. I'v been resisting the B&M and online for a couple weeks now.

  19. I'm on an Anthro break too. I tend to get too caught up in "collecting" their clothes just because they're Anthro and not really buying pieces that I love or need.

  20. I LOVE when I start rummaging through my closet and find things I've forgotten about/didn't wear enough!! its like shopping in your closet, so awesome! and I, too, adore anthro, it just kills me when I spend $$ on some of their stuff and it starts to fall apart soon after (I know this is true of many places, but anthro can be so pricey!!) so I'm all for imitation anthro haha 🙂

  21. Anthropolgie: I've never been to this store, but I hear such fabulous things! We are soon to have one in Tulsa…can't wait!

  22. I completely understand your need to wean yourself off from Anthro. I feel the same way, it's so addicting, but you've got to eat right? 😛
    That dress is awesomesauce.

  23. I can't even go into Antro anymore because it makes me so depressed when I go in.

Not because of the lack of things I want, because I want everything and can have nothing.

When I grow up and am not on a college student budget anymore, I will allow myself to go back in.

  24. I love this outfit! So fun! I love the Athro look, so I'm always super-excited to see someone pull it off for cheap.

  25. Your creative brain is amazing!!! Coming up with so many clever ideas to explain your shopping obsession. Love your stories as much as your photos.

Have you checked out yet? Will try for everyweek not everyday like you.

  26. Something dropped in posting. I was asking if you'd checked out SILVERCROWNSTYLES yet? Trying to imitate you but that's impossible of course!!! You're the queen!!!

  27. I do the same thing with stores! DSW and I had to break up for a while, but now we're back together which is a problem again…

  28. Love the colors together! As long as it is going to be a warm-cool day, I always wear my cardigan under my belt too.

  29. I had to put myself on a ban too =( I don't even bother looking at the clothes I can't afford, it's the adorable kitchenware! Luckily my mom is getting me the grapefruit sugar bowl I want for my birthday ^_^

LOVE this look! Definitely Anthro inspired.

  30. I defintely purchased the same dress and have a feeling that I will be living in it.

I also really relate to buying items, but not falling madly, obsessively in love with them until years later. I seem to do that a lot. And I'm always so grateful that I bought the item, but also wonder what took me so long to get with the program? I'm just a little slower than my purchasing insticts, I suppose.

  31. Great Outfit. Can't wait to visit Target for my Tucker Fix next weeeknd! As for the boots… I think I just fell in love…twice 🙂

Dont you love shopping in your own closet. so much fun!

Hey- come check out my blog on Monday. Im having my first ever contest… its going to be fun!

    XOXO

  32. Love that dress!!! And I really really love how you keep finding hidden treasures in your wardrobe – can you find steve madden booties in the back of my wardrobe too??
Meanwhile, do you know what those plants are behind you? They look eerily simiarly to ones from back home – told you Texas looks like Australia!

  33. My best friend and I are on a 60 day spending freeze. No clothes, no hair products, no make-up, no clearance chap-stick…NOTHING. Its actually been really nice. Kudos to you and your Anthro. break! And good luck!!

  34. I think Steve Madden is ahead of himself. It seems like whenever I buy Maddens, they aren't "in style" until the next season. Just follow Steve and you'll be ahead of the game!

  35. I only allow myself to look at sale items at anthro. Sometimes this works well (last week I got a skirt for TWENTY ONE DOLLARS. I know)and sometimes I walk out super bitter that all of the "good stuff" was most definitely not on sale. But hey, loads of us are living in hobo times right now, so you do what you have to do.

  36. How awesome you look!!! Love your dress…every time Ive been to my Target…they never have any of the Tucker pieces in stock…you are one lucky girl…and the boots? it goes without saying..SM is one of a kind..and Im sure you thanked him for the "free" boots:)

  37. love the boots! oooh, the sadness of the anthropologie break.

i wish i had enough will power to go on an anthropologie fast but it would make me too sad right now.

  38. i didn't see this dress at my target!

    i think i went to late :(.

    it looks great on you!

    perfect fauxthology 🙂

    enjoy your weekend pretty lady

  39. Those booties are so adorable. I firmly believe that Mister Madden is ahead of himself. Oh, his shoes make me swoon. Anyway, you look stunning as usual. That dress is perfect. I certainly wouldn't (and probably couldn't!) have passed it up.

    Melanie@UnravelledThreads

  40. Damnit. I bought that dress too and I was going to return it because I totally don't need it… but after seeing how you styled it, I think I have to keep it! LOVE!! xoxo

  41. I can't deal with Anthropologie. They seriously have me wanting a $4800 chandelier…made out of spoons. All good judgement flies out the window when I browse that site.
I've got to try out some faux-thropologie shopping. There's no way I can afford the real deal these days!

  42. Anthropologie is amazing, but their prices….not so much. I don't even both shopping there half the time because I literally want every piece of clothing I see. Plus, it scarily reminds me of Urban Outfitters – it looks like almost the same exact store only the prices are 10x more.

  43. I think you're still really able to pull off the Anthropologie aesthetic here. I'm disappointed that I never saw the Tucker for Target in person, I live in NYC so the one Target in the city isn't that easy to get to. This dress looks great, I love the subtle pattern.

  44. this outfit is really cute. *sigh* I always luv the background in ur shoots. i need to find a place to take my pix too.
