4.15.10I must be completely honest with you guys — I’m getting kind of tired of wearing the same things over and over. AKA I’m kind of a brat. I started this project to teach myself that I don’t have to wear something new all the time. I don’t need to buy something to be cute, I can be creative and still have a very on-trend outfit. It’s just hard to break a lifelong habit of shopping in only a month. In fact, it may be impossible. My love for clothes and fashion goes back as far as I can remember. Four years old to be exact, I remember putting on a new outfit that wasn’t a hand-me-down from my sister. Oh, feeling the excitement of something new, a feeling that never gets old.

My husband just rolled his eyes at me and then checked our bank account to see if I’ve been cheating on him with J.Crew. (I haven’t but I almost did with Gap.)

So it’s been raining for what feels like two weeks. More accurately it’s been about a day and a half. I must say that with my shoe choices its been difficult to traipse through the mud and puddles with my heels, but I’ve made it through thus far without injury to my body or pride. Also, who knew that jumping in puddles for me was like riding a roller coaster for others? Look at the sheer terror on my face. Terror that is normally brought on solely by amusement park rides.

I definitely got some air. And then I dropped my flower pin in a big puddle.
4.15.10That’ll teach me to have fun.

  1. Awwww… sad little flower…
Um, can you send me a pic of teenage you wearing the pleather pants? Thanks. That would make my friday.

  2. Oooh, I like how you paired a casual plaid shirt with a lil' black dress… it works great and I would never have thought of doing it. Ha ha, I totally know what you mean about feeling like a bit of a *brat* for getting bored with what you're wearing… I crave variety.

  3. 1. I love this necklace.
    2. but more importantly – you are brave woman. I don't think I could go without shopping for that long without shopmamie!

17 more daysand you can shop again!!! stay strong!

    xoxo

  4. This title made me laugh.

I seriously admire you for taking this on. I don't think I could do it. Is it horrible that we always want new clothes? I feel like it is…starving children and everything. But I really can't stop. Props to you though. Are you gonna shopping-binge after?

  5. It's seriously amazing that it's taken you this long to get bored. Sometimes I have to chide myself for getting bored with my entire closet full of clothes. 30 pieces seems impossible, but you've been doing brilliantly.

And unfortunate though it may be, the picture of your sad flower definitely got a chuckle. 🙂

  6. You make me laugh daily. Thanks for that.

Other than that… I love the plaid under the shift dress! SO chic. I might have to copy that exact outfit tomorrow. Would that be exceptionally weird?

  7. I understand how you feel about shopping. I wonder if I could completely stop for any significant amount of time. Maybe your 30 item restriction is the issue. After all, wouldn't your self-imposed shopping ban be the tiniest bit easier to deal with if you weren't so restricted within your own closet? I say if you find yourself wanting to cave and give in, then just loosen the reins on your rule about only 30 items. After all, shopping in your own closet doesn't effect your bank account at all!

    BTW, I love today's look! 🙂

  8. Oh my gosh, your face made me so sad! Poor flower! You may want to be on the safe side and have you husband block certain websites like J.Crew and Gap to make the temptation a little less! Haha, almost like parental controls!

  9. First, I have to say, I think you are doing AWESOME! Each outfit looks unique and I really think you are achieving so many different looks. Second, I hear you on the no shopping thing. I tried to do a 2-month shopping ban and I didn't make it. I could only do the first month and even then I cheated once 🙁 It's harder than it seems!! But, it seems like you are really pulling together some great looks so I'm saying….I have faith in you to complete your challenge 🙂

  10. Aww. I love these photos. So playful. You've definitely got me thinking of trying a shopping hiatus or fast or whatever you want to call it. 🙂

  11. i LOVE your style. you're able to pull off so many different and cute looks with such a limited number of items…amazing! i would never have that kind of creativity.

  12. I just love your pout picture. I bursted out laughing in the office. Thanks for making my day a little better with your usual self – and love the outfit by the way.

  13. I know exactly how you feel about buying new clothes and just shopping in general. It may sound sick, but even just wandering around stores is like therapy for me! Even if I don't buy something! I'm currently saving money for an around the world trip and have been hating all the sales (and they are good ones!) and cute clothes coming out. Good luck- I have loved watching your project!

  14. i was having that exact conversation today with my husband…even though we were broke when i was little, my mom had a crazy shopping habit and barely wore anything twice…that mentality has unfortunately been passed down to me. i have to fight everyday just to make myself incorporate something ive worn before. i must say i dont always win. so hard to learn new habits.
    cute pics as always!!

  15. You are adorable and your blog is one of my favourite daily reads. Keep going with the 30 day challenge – almost halfway there!

  16. OMG I love your pictures! You are so fun, I seriously love reading your blog as much as looking at the pictures (not a small feat)!

I've been enjoying your challenge and have been considering doing one of my own… I have similar shopping/closet/money issues….

  17. Aww! Sorry about your flower pin! I love that flower pin! Hang in there! Just 18 more days to go! When your 30 day challenge is over and you've proved to yourself (and hubs) that you don't have to buy new things all the time, then you can go buy yourself some new things 🙂

  18. Yoiks. Hope the pin survived its bath.

You can totally do this, lady. Power through just a little while longer and you'll be so proud! And wealthy.

  19. When bloggers embark on these types of capsule challenges I never participate, because I just don't think I have it in me. So at least you are doing better than me. And it doesn't look like you are wearing the same things, even if it feels like it.

  20. It has been raining here forever too, but I'm okay with it because I can bust out my cute umbrellas and I don't have to bike to work! you're doing great on your challenge, so far all of your outfits have been cute!

  21. Aw ~ it needed a bath anyway… right? 😉 I love the jump pic though! I think you should add it to your header when you're ready for another change. You're doing a great job at mixing up your outfits ~ keep it going!

  22. I love the plaid shirt under the fancy dress. The blue pops with the black. So cute! And I'm sorry for your poor little flower pin 🙁 I love your peep toe shoes.
In addition with your magnificent photos, I love reading what you write. It always makes me laugh.

  23. Why is this my first time to your blog? I have no idea. You are so adorable and your about me made me laugh out loud. SO CUTE. Going to find the follow button right now.

    ps- cute outfit!

  24. i am with you sister! i have been addicted to shopping since as far back as i can remember, too. and i love to get something new to mix into my wardrobe. i ebay quite a bit to keep my habit revolving so my husband doesn't think i'm cheating on him. ha ha ha.

anyway, i love this outfit on you though. it's crazy how many cute outfits you are getting out of so few items. i mean, seriously! you are awesome.

yesterday's outfit blew me away. i just forgot to comment yesterday. but i loved it!

  25. I can totally understand why this is getting tedious for you but it's such an inspiration to me! I am so amazed how well you've been remixing things and excited each day to see what pieces you're gonna use. It really does look like new clothes everyday too. Hang in there!

  26. I just want to say, that I really love your idea for this. Please keep it up! I love seeing you transform the same things into something new everyday. And your sense of humor in your blog posts is always great. I chuckle a little bit at almost every one, I'm certain. :]
