I am an irresponsible person. Technically I shouldn’t even be considered an adult, but since I’m over 18, I’ve voted and I have a credit card, I am an adult. I hereby protest this imposed age limit on adulthood, I should be an adult when I’m ready to be. And trust me, I’m not ready. If you saw my closet with all of my clothes on the floor and the naked hangers hanging lonely on the bar, you would understand why I am protesting adulthood. Besides the inability of keeping a clean and organized closet, I am also late everywhere I go and I can never remember to eat breakfast. There is a reason we don’t have kids, people.

I say all of this out of total self-frustration. Instead of planning out my clothes for the next day, I read magazines, watch hulu or play iphone games with my husband until we fall asleep. I usually have a pretty good idea of what I want to wear or I dream about outfits (sick, I know) but this morning was chaos. I had no idea what to wear. I was already running late and was about to call it quits and throw on some overalls and a bucket hat (my back up plan, haven’t used it since ’94), when I saw this:
2.17 lucky
Bingo. I immediately knew that I could re-create this look in no time. I found this sweater easily as it was the only sweater still hanging in my closet. I found my belt under the bed and my shorts in a corner, crumpled up and crying. Oh and I got to wear my new shoes from Forever21. They are a bit tight, but I just couldn’t bring myself to return them. As me and my size 10 (sometimes 11) feet have learned — cheap shoes run small. No pain, no gain — right?

  1. i love the shades of pink here–and the belt with the shorts is genius!
and lord, i know that moment in the morning. the moment of panic where i am always about half a second away from wearing my ancient levis and a hanes tee shirt to teach.

  2. I knew I saw that outfit from somewhere — it looks gorgeous on you! Love the pink and red together.

I kinda feel the same way about adulthood, although I feel more like an old soul. I'd much rather be having fun and spending time with the hubs than organizing or doing mundane crap.

  3. I know the feeling you have described! I NEVER plan outfits, I just throw on whatever I'm feeling that morning, which may not be a good idea because I'm usually feeling groggy and cold and just want to go back to bed. But you did a fabulous job recreating the look!

  4. I have 10-sometimes-11 feet, too! I have a very similar pair of shoes in black from Payless in a rare cheap-store size: 10W. Such an exciting find, especially because they also had 10.5 available. I love how all the different colors came together in this outfit—beautiful!

  5. LOL, you are too funny, I love your protest against adulthood 😉 And your instant inspiration via a magazine cover — I think it translated very well. Oh, and as someone with Size 11, sometimes Size 10.5 if I'm verrry lucky, feet, I relate on the running small frustration! Then again, most cheap shoes aren't even made in my size, so I perhaps I even envy you a little 🙂

  6. You're a size 10 in shoes, too? Omg, so good to know my feet aren't the only one that protest cheap shoes. But I do really like your F21 oxfords with that outfit 🙂

  7. Thank you Lucky! That magazine is always so full of those tags because I always think…'I should try that'. Too bad I have to wait for spring for a lot of my looks…
Can you try the back-up plan one time? I think you'd rock it…

  8. i love those shorts!

Lucky forgot to mail me that issue! I feel like I missed out on some good fashion inspiration!

  9. I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

  10. I love your recreation of the cover look! It's spot on!

I love Lucky, I can't wait to get to the States next week and pick up a copy at the airport. Something about having stickers to bookmark your favorite pages . . . all they need it so add some unicorns and hearts to the masthead and they'll have made a life long reader out of me. S

  11. I never got that issue of Lucky! This outfit is really cute and looks planned. I personally do organize my closet (I just spent about and hour hanging things last night) and pick out four or five outfits a week but usually don't end up wearing them and going with an on the fly inspiration anyway.

  12. Lovely outfit! I can't wait for the weather to warm up in here, I'm living in Europe and it's still freezing cold!

  13. Oh, you channel it beautifully! I love this look!!!

And I totally feel you about morning outfit prep. God do I ever feel you. 🙂

  14. I cannot WAIT to meet you! I know that your town is three hours away or so, so if you want to crash in our guest room, feel free! You can even bring your husband!

I SO feel the same way about adulthood as you do, but I finally realized that if I kept waiting to feel like an adult to have kids, I'd never have kids. I think this will make me a fun mom, but GOSH. I have GOT to get my closet under control!!!

  15. I don't like shorts & tights, but here? I love it! I dunno what it is about you but you make everything you wear look effortless, pulled together and beautiful!

  16. I love the way this came together! You can definitely can pull off the shorts look.

  17. Love the pink.. and those shorts are great! My favorite look is shorts with tights. I know a lot of girls have mixed feelings, but I just love the way it looks! You always have such great settings for your photos too!

  18. I dream about clam chowder and I don't have a credit card. Am I an adult?

I left you a little bloggy award in my neck of the woods, check it out.

  19. Hahaha! I have a huge pile of clothes on top of my dresser right now and another on my bed!

You look adorable, though, and I love those shoes! Hopefully, they will break in easily!

  20. Great look – would never have guessed it wasn't planned.

And so pleased your clothes are as messy as mine. Keep seeing bloggers posting photos of their perfect wardrobes where everything is hung up and colour-coordinated and thought it was just me that didn't do that.

  22. oh my GOD do i know what you are talking about shoe sizes!!!! i used to have tens but then they turned into 11s (not sure why). basically all of my shoes are too small because I have serious shoe-shopping issues aka falling in love with too-small sale tennis shoes at lacoste and telling myself "theyre leather! theyll stretch!" which they never do.

  23. gah i freakin' love lucky. best outfit inspiration ever. and i'm with you on the planning. while i've gotten better at keeping my closet organized (not much better… but everything IN the closet is a start, right?) i'm still horrible at planning or executing outfits the way i want.
