I braved the wind and the cold yesterday to wear my new shorts I got on sale at Anthropologie. (The only way I can buy anything from that store.) I took some cues from S. over at Academic Chic. Ever since I started following the girls over at Academic Chic, I’ve admired S. and her way with mixing shorts and tights in the winter. When I found these little puppies on sale for $29 and I decided to take the plunge. It was actually kind of difficult to pair something with these shorts. So I give S. big props for perfecting the winter shorts style. Bravo!
This was my first shot at winter shorts, so be gentle. Also, I traded in a day of work for a day in Austin, so I decided to try the tweed shorts out, away from work. I don’t think that I would be able to pull this off for work. They aren’t super short or anything, but I can just see the looks upper-management will give. So, I think that I’ll stay on the good side with HR and keep my shorts for the weekends.

I LOVE this outfit!! That vest is super cute, and now I wish I had one to wear to work. The color combination looks lovely, and I think those boots were the right choice – a darker boot would have made the whole outfit less playful. Great first attempt at the winter shorts, I think!

Adorable outfit! I have a pair of tweed cuff shorts from GAP and they're one of my fave items to wear in lieu of a skirt. That hoodies so adorable too.
I love wearing shorts in winter with tights. What I really love is your coat! Its so perfect, I've been looking for one just like it, the exact right shade.

lovin' the shorts. i'm too timid to try this look but, like you, i've been admiring S.'s trials from afar, too. since it's such a hard look to pull off, i've gotta give you kudos for styling a fun look that works! and for wearing shorts in wintertime, this gives me chills just looking 🙂

If it gets any colder, a layer of tights and then a layer of leggings works for me, I just buy the shorts a size up! I like anything that shoes a little leg!
Hmmm…I think you've inspired me to dig my houndstooth shorts out of the back of my closet and rock 'em with boots. I'm thinking I'll wear them with opaque tights.
And I'm with you on shopping at Anthro: I browse for about 2 minutes then make a beeline straight for the sale rack!

The shorts/tights combo is my favorite thing to wear in cold temps. You pull it off really well. I too have been contemplating if I could wear shorts like this to work. I think it's possible with all right factors in order (material, length, ect.), but I haven't quite figured it out yet.
